but practically, I don't think I can do it...

I want to say no but I don't agree with suffering either . There is a saying were there is life there is hope but sometimes there isn't and I think ot takes a very brave unselfish person to assist with a suicide if the person requesting it is so very ill.

I agree with assisted suicides, because when you are very ill with a terminal disease you can be in great pain, also you won't want to suffer any longer than is necessary.

My father suffered a great deal when he died from brain Cancer 5 years ago.
He made me promise him if he should ever become so incapacitated that I would see to it that his life support machine be switched off.
I never got to adhere to his wishes because he died in Spain. He died before the need to switch of the life support machine was needed.

We shouldn't have to suffer because doctors want to practise medicine, whilst keeping us alive longer and longer yet still suffering.

Why not? I think people should have to go through a psychological evaluation by doctors who are government approved and other regulated process (to make sure that they actually want this outcome), but yes, i agree for anyone who wants to do it, not just the terminally ill. Why should we have the right to keep them alive if the person doesn't want to be here?

If the person is terminall ill and wishes to do so then I would agree and as long as it dosn't put them in anymore pain then yeah. But otherwise some really sad person saying help me throw myself off a building because I hate the world, then no!

Yes, I certainly do - as long as the person is over 18 years of age and mentally competent to make the decision. Also, I would like to see them have a competent pain medicine specialist consultation before they go through with it. It would need to be a pain specialist who would be unencumbered by threats of lawsuit for giving narcotics in large doses. He/she should be able to give whatever will help make the person comfortable so that they may not choose suicide at all - legal or illegal.

YES!!! ask yourself how you would feel if you were in PAIN 24/7,
it's about time the 'do gooders' in this world shut up and let people make thier own choice. Why should anybody have to suffer?. If god was that bothered why inflict the pain and suffering in the first place.
so long as it is your choice and yours alone then yes have the right to die !!

oh heck yeah! I watched my mother slowly starve to death with colon cancer because the best they could do was tell her, just keep hitting the morphine button & she didn't have the courage or will to do so--she suffered greatly, thank god she didn't ask me to do it for her--that would have scarred for life--but many family memebers have had to do this to end the agony of their loved ones. When the money finally ran out she died. which is often the case in cancer cases. Strange how they don't die until there are no more funds in the coffers.

I agree with it in extreme irreversible circumstances. The person would have to be of 'sound mind' (and has been assessed by a proffessional as such). After all, if animals are in severe pain we would allow them to be euthanased rather than go through an undignified slow decline, so why not humans?

Yes, like Switzerland we should have somewhere which provides a humane answer to ending your life if overcome by terminal illness. The news reports yesterday of the poor lady who resorted to tying plastic bags over her head were tragic. Why should anyone have to die like this?

It's a hard one to answer, if the person was in a cabbage state I know I would want to be put down but then you have the wee thing called the labour law murder
