There are a number of ways to meet new people, depending on your interest. One way would be to check on craigslist (I think it is washingtondc.craigslist.org for your area)- they have tons of groups and events listed on there for people wanting to make new friends... I just moved to Denver and am using it for that purpose. I am finding it very useful! Also, you could try volunteering. I started volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and have met some awesome people through that, as well. I like those two options because they are free and convenient, which are big pluses for me!
Good luck!

I just stumbled on this question. I gotta tell ya, I was just the opposite. Moved from living in Chicago all my life to a twig of a town in Michigan. (We gots two traffic lights.) ha ha.. The people in this tiny town are SO much MORE friendly than any neighbors I ever had in Chicago. Lived next to an old man for 12 years before he'd even say hi. Making friends in a big city you would think would be easy. Only advice is go DO something you like to do. You'll meet other people doing the same. People in big cities all seem to have a city attitude, sort of a wall between them and everyone else. But a nice friendly hello melts most walls. Start there. If you get ice back, well move on. Only millions more to try. Good luck. ps, I wouldn't trade my small town to go back to that city under ANY circumstances what so ever!!!!

Ask around at work if there are any social organizations you can join. I joined a young professionals organization in the city where I live. There is also Lion's Club and Rotary Club. These are excellent ways to network, may not be the best for dating, but you will definately meet people.

clubs, organizations, web site, wrong numbers (lol, JK), meet one person and become real good friends with them, I bet you'll manage to meet lots of different people then. Pick up a pencil for someone when it drops, showing good gestures mean the world to people. Just don't try to be perfect. People hate that.
