I'm not sure if I understand your question.
I have a very good relationship with my parents. A generation gap should not impare a relationship to the point of being sad or argumentative. Both parties should recognize that they only have seemingly incompatible goals, but through dialogue, consideration for each other, and considerate self expression, relationship problems can be easily fixed.

Generation gap!?
2000 years back a Tamil saint Thiruvalluvar told this
You should present your parents the following words by the society.
"What a child! They must have prayed to have this child!!!"
This holds good even today.

It depends upon teh children as for how they treat their parent.
whether thy value all the things that their parents had done for them.
