Where you take a clear glass plate, put lacker on the back of it and then put material over it!

How is this done? What are the steps?

How do I get the material to lay flat around the edges????

Do you cut material first or last? What tools do you use?

Please help I do not know the correct steps and I am just wasting time, money and materials!

I dont know about putting material on it, but I have actually put paper on the back with Transfer paste from Dylon, then laquered afterwards.

You can put paper or fabric on the back of the plate. Hopefully you have a Michael's craft store, or something similar, in your town - they will know what to use.

They made these plates on a show called "Decorating with Style" it was on HGTV several years ago. I don't think it's lacquer that you put on the back of the plate - it is some kind of glue, sort of like decoupage. You put the stuff all over the back of the plate, using a small paintbrush, then cover with your fabric/paper (which you should have cut out approximately the same size), then add one or possibly two more coats of the clear glue stuff on top of it. If you put one coat on and let it dry, it will be easy to trim the fabric/paper close to the edge.

I saw this done and it looked great. Just make sure you only handwash them - no dishwashers.

You can research the old shows - go to www.hgtv.com, click on program guide and put in the show name, or try a search for "decoupage plate" and hopefully it will come up.

If you are using lacquer, instead of a glue, that could be your problem. Hope this helps.

Somebody else asked the same question a while back. Here is the link she found:
