Well as they begin to grow in numbers then automatically more of them will be the victim of a crime because the nature of statisitics says that the more of a type of object you have the more that that object will have things intereact with it.
hence it doesnt mean they are more hated just more of them to be susceptable to criminal activitiy because there are more of them.

Apparently waving your gayness in the face of your neighbours doesn't defend you from getting bashed. perhaps a lower key course of action should be the preferred.
