Because they showed the boys coming home from Nam in caskets and as POW's. It put a sense of reality to the war. Out of sight out of mind is this administrations theory.

Because The Administration knows if the caskets are shown, it will turn The Public against The War. It has nothing to do with privacy for the Families or questioning what side you are on, like some Conservative people say here.

The same thing happened during The Vietnam War. As more and more caskets were shown in the media, more and more Americans began to protest The War in Vietnam.

The difference back then was, both Conservatives and Liberals were against The Vietnam War. Today, it's mostly Liberals against The War in Iraq because the Conservatives are too blind to see the truth and they will follow Bush blindly, no matter how wrong he is on Iraq!

The only justified deployment of our forces was to, Afghanistan...That is where the real War on terror is!

Bush going into Iraq was to get revenge for his Daddy and nothing Conservatives say will ever change my opinion on that!

Go ahead Conservatives...start with the thumbs down. You have no tolerance for the truth!

It was a decision made early on by the white house. It was felt that showing the caskets on TV would eventually demoralize the American public and turn them against the war.
There was a reporter who managed to get a picture of the flag draped caskets on the plane. She was fired by her newspaper.

I don't understand why people say it would be shameful... what it would be is REAL.

What is so shameful about dying for your country...??? Or could the percieved shame be from fear that our soldiers died for LIES???????

They drape the casket in the American flag and it is supposed to be an honor....

We dont need to see the dead paraded around on TV 24 hours a day... but it is kind of discgraceful that it is banned althogether... something is wrong with this picture.

I think it should be shown as an honor of those who died and not swept under the carpet as most of these people suggest.

I also believe what should be shown are some of the funerals and the grief the families go through.

That is the problem with our society they have become numb to other peoples feelings. We are becoming a society of sociopaths.

because that would show there is a cost which has a value much higher than just money to the nation.so it a political reason to detach emotion created when people see that people just like them are dying everyday in war.would it not be a Honorable return for the dead soldiers and there family to show the nation what has been sacrificed. as far as i am concerned another cowardly act by politicians (Dem's and rep's).

Because it's tactless, tasteless and just wrong. There are plenty of memorial services that can be shown if the media wished and in which the public can participate. But quite frankly if I had come back to the states in coffin I don't want ANY party or group point or using my coffin as an anti-war message. I asked to go, I made the decision to enlist, I did not ask for some antiwar profiteer to put my name on their t-shirts or for the media to spin thoughts and feelings against my Commander and Chief.

It's part of a media whitewash. Any time conservotards start blathering about liberal media, just point to this. The media is "Foley-friends", shall we say, with the Bush administration.

"Monkey Say, Media Do."

If you are not happy with the TV shows that are available to you--go down to the public washateria and watch the clothes being dried in the drier. Or maybe you could print off a picture of GW Bush and thumb tack it to your wall and throw darts at it.

The reason that they dont show the caskets of soldiers is simply out of the respect for those families that have lost a loved one. Its tragic and I dont think we need to see those images over and over.........
