Why don't you search for articles on a specific age group (college kids) and pressures they face. You should start your paper with a statement about some reasons for binge drinking. you should also include how it affects thier academic performance, social skills, health issues, and families. Somewhere in there, throw in some data about drunk driving, date rape/gang rape, aggression and violent crimes committed under the influence, etc. You could possible include some info on marketing techniques that glamourize alcohol by using sports, sex appeal, and success to appeal to that age group.
How many days do you have to do this paper? One week? Two? If you have one week, then take the first day to gather info, read articles, and choose where you will get info from and cite that info.
Make an outline (subject to revision) the first day.
This is the hardest part, so you will have to do the most the first day. It all gets easier from here. This day revolves around drawing the map, so to speak.
Roman numerals I-V. Then in between each, put (at least) 3 points (1,2,3) and leave room for possible subpoints (a,b,c). Scribble one sentance for each roman numeral (each numeral being a whole page topic such as "there is a problem," "ramifications of this problem," "reasons/contributors to the problem," how the problem is being handled," "conclusion restating intro, and summing up what's being done."
Can you see where the subpoints fit in? I. Problem: Binge drinking has a negative effect on health, adademics, and crime rates. II.Ramifications: 1-health, a) alcohol addiction, b)alcohol poisioning, c)depression, d)organ damage. 2-crime, a)date rape, b)drunk driving, c)violent assults III. Reasons: 1-Pressure a)advertising seduction, b)peer pressure, c)alcoholic parents, d)uninvolved parents, e)availability/curiosity. IV. Handling: a) student awareness, b)support/counseling, c) penalties/punishments. V. Summary of intro and comclusion combined.
This is enough work for the first day. The second day, look for websites, articles, and journals. Make a list and a reference page. This is enough for the second day.
Third day, make notes on your outline where you will put quotes, references, etc. Your outline may change based on what info you have to offer. Make a rough draft. Take a break and think about it.
Fourth day, reread draft and revise. Fifth day, read to someone else and revise. Hearing it out loud will inspire you to restate things, and you will find errors in spelling, grammar, and want to revise it again.
Sixth day, revise again. Make a finished document file and save it. Print out.

Binge drinkers aren't drunk all the time, that's one thing you need to be aware of.
A binge drinker may only get drunk once or twice a month but the level of intoxication is staggering (no pun intended).
Say the weekend is coming up, long weekends are the best, you've got no plans, all the bills are paid. Friday after work is when you start drinking and you don't stop drinking till Sunday afternoon, around three. (Sunday morning you needed a few to kill that hangover).
The worst effects of doing this is the extreme depression that follows but it usually only lasts for about a day.
Another is not being able to remember exactly what you may have done.
Your going to have to do some research for your paper. One way to start it may be; Binge drinking affects society in many different ways...
Also the effects binge drinking has on a family person as compared to a single person will obviously be greatly different.

Ya know, this issue should be discussed more often. Really, you might gear a part of the paper on who is effected by binge drinking, like the families of the binge drinker and people who come in contact with these type of people.

The ramifications of binge drinking on the drinker and society. Short and long term.
See, you're going to actually research binge drinking to find out what the sociological issues are.
Without doing so, I would guess drunk driving, rape, alcoholism, inability to earn a living...

Tough question--I'm more of a maintenance drinker, However, some things you might expound upon might include; The cost of binge drinking on society as car accidents, health expenses--insurance rates go up in both cases, lost or impaired time at work--lowers morale & increases expenses for the company--which passes those costs on to their clients/buyers. Psycological & physical suffering to the friends & family of the drinker--the negative effects of that spreading to their circle of friends & family, etc.
Suggestion: Pose this question at a few AA meetings--go to "open" meetings.

binge drinking on college campuses, this is a real issue, and focus on how this relates to deaths, violence such as rape, alcoholism. this is a good place to begin and there should be a great deal of research available. and more and more females are becoming involved in this practice. Good luck with your paper, God bless

You should write about how the drinking affects everyone around the drunk: his friends, family, fellow workers, etc. AA might have some info on binge drinking that would be helpful but don't plagiarize. It will get you into trouble.

I tend to look at the scientific "outcome" of things.
For example a sociology paper, may look at the statistic correlation between lowering allowable BAC content and DUI convictions. Or does lowering the allowable BAC impact social behavior?
What are the sentences for each state for DUI, Has decreasing allowable BAC reduced DUIs?

One of the things is how often you see advertisements for alcohol. Only recently have they started putting "please drink responsibly". Also, we are never taught how to cope with life's situations.
