Taking a course for 3 semesters is a good way to find out about the newest things. It can give you an edge over those who have not taken a course. However, you can always take a workshop or courses on specific topics once you get some experience.

Working as an apprentice gives you real experience. Most people want to hire someone who has experience. If it were me, or if I were advising my son, I would pick this route.

If you can take a vocational course in high school it sets you off in the right direction. You do not state your age.

If you can get into an apprenticeship program, you'll be learning from the experienced (not the expert) with your hands on the hammer and saw. I could have you in my classroom for the next 16 years, telling you how it feels to tighten a nut on a bolt. But until you get your own hands on the wrench and feel the torque, you'll never know that feeling. I worked with a journeyman carpenter for a long time till I was ready to venture out on my own. Whatever you choose, the best to you,
