The usual protocol is to use an oral glucose solution if the patient is conscious and able to swallow, or to run an IV of 50% glucose solution.

Go with the RN. The "nursing education" is a student but doesn't want to come out and say it. Starting and running an IV will take too long. This is a med you want to push, not run.

Just FYI, insulin shock has been used in the same manner as electroshock therapy for depressed people. This has been discontinued for years. I'll bet people were accidentally kiiled by doing this.

when you go to the er w/insulin shock, they usually give you sugar water intraveniously.

they give D50 IV push.
