I don't know about giving you a free program but sure.

It is not safe to just do a simple "fdisk" or similar on the drive anymore. If you plan on not using that drive again get a hex screwdriver out and go to town on it.

If it's a laptop hard drive (and you aren't using it anymore) throw it on the ground and you will hear it break. That's a glass packed harddrive. Those are awesome.

If it's a standard one, then use something a bit more stronger to clear the drive than fdisk, something that was developed by the manuf. that will "zero" out the drive. That way the drive has nothing but 0's all through it so any information is useless.

If you don't believe me that you can get data back from a simple fdisk lookup the program "getdataback" it's a nifty little program that does wonders. I got many, and I mean MANY files/folders/programs back from that tool even when the drive was fdisked, then reinstalled over. It works.

If you're talking about a program that will erase your harddrive, I'm not sure about that. I'm not currently on top of that kind of software, so I don't know if there really is any, and if there is, if it works.

If you're talking about completely deleting everything that currently exists on your computer, then you would probably want to reformat. For this, you don't need a program, you just need the OS (operating system) boot disc for whatever OS you plan on using. This would be getting into an entirely different question, though.

As far as erasing the information on your harddrive (as in reformatting) then yes, it is safe. You just need to make sure you know how to do it before starting, or you could end up with some trouble.

Good luck

If your going to erase your hard drive remember to back up the files and programs you want to keep elsewhere like a cd or an external Hard drive then un-attach it from your pc before doing this.

Your question actually answers itself. It erases everything.

If your doing this because windows is not performing properly I suggest you use the backup disk of windows you got with your pc and try a repair first. It may fix your problem, but either way save your files first before you do anything else.

When you apply this the data in the hard drive may be lost. Losing data on a hard drive is the worst nightmare of any computer owner. However, some hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful

You need to know exactly what you're doing plus you need to create a back up of any important files/documents you may wish to keep.
