I don't think the Indefinite Detainment Act of 2006 will stand up in federal court. It clearly violates several provisions of the Bill of Rights.

Like Samson, the way to cut Bush's power is to trim his hair -- I don't like the Democrats (they are wusses on military matters and lemon socialists) but we need gridlock to preserve the Republic -- let's stick "W" with a democratic house and Senate for his last two years in office so they can run hearings and see if "W" merits impeachment....

Let's see how the old preppie dances when the griddle is hot.

I don't have to consider who reported it! I read the Bill, and there are things he left out, like he can't be tried for war crimes or brought to court for them! He gutted the 6th Amendment!

You are right, we have a Dictator!

Olbermann: The Day Habeas Corpus Died

Crooks & Liars | October 18 2006

Today, 135 years to the day after the last American President (Ulysses S. Grant) suspended habeas corpus, President Bush signed into law the Military Commissions Act of 2006. At its worst, the legislation allows President Bush or Donald Rumsfeld to declare anyone — US citizen or not — an enemy combatant, lock them up and throw away the key without a chance to prove their innocence in a court of law. In other words, every thing the Founding Fathers fought the British empire to free themselves of was reversed and nullified with the stroke of a pen, all under the guise of the War on Terror.

Jonathan Turley joined Keith to talk about the law that Senator Feingold said would be seen as "a stain on our nation's history."

Turley: "People have no idea how significant this is. Really a time of shame this is for the American system.—The strange thing is that we have become sort of constitutional couch potatoes. The Congress just gave the President despotic powers and you could hear the yawn across the country as people turned to Dancing With the Stars. It's otherworldly..People clearly don't realize what a fundamental change it is about who we are as a country. What happened today changed us. And I'm not too sure we're gonna change back anytime soon."

We could have said good bye 6 years ago when we appointed a president for the first time in history, why wait until now to get worried. As we find out one party rule is not good for America, I hope that all democrats and some repuglicans remember this when they walk into the voting both this November. We need, now we must restore checks and balance to the government.

Well Habeus Corpus is not souly to the US Constitution, it originally written in the Magna Carta, written over 700 years ago! So we're not just talking about shredding the constitution, we're shredding the history and pride of all the great Democracies.

Dont be so sure that the S.C. is going to overturn it either. We can blame the politicians we want, if you disagree with it, where the HELL have we been? Seen any protests, national movement? Nothing. We really only have ourselves to blame.

Here's why America as we knew it no longer exists. It's because THIS secret and evil group has been in control of everything for far too long!...

If we riot, martial law will be instituted by foreign troops already on U.S. soil. Our troops are overseas in order to leave the rest of us defenseless against Bush's new torture laws. They are also overseas for THIS secret reason!...

The Bible has the ONLY solution. Repent, fast, and pray for our country so that God will hear from Heaven and HEAL OUR LAND!...

According to Christopher Anders, an ACLU Legislative Counsel, "nothing could be less American than a government that can indefinitely hold people in secret torture cells, take away their protections against horrific and cruel abuse, put them on trial based on evidence that they cannot see, sentence them to death based on testimony literally beaten out of witnesses, and then slam shut the courthouse door for any habeas petition, but that’s exactly what Congress just approved."

And posting pompous questions on a message board is just the thing to cure this... You make me so proud of your white knuckled determination to do something about it! Good for you - and thank you for the condescension and snootiness - we don't get enough of that.
