the reason you have nothing to do is because you are in the boring part. get to Johannesburg or Cape Town where you can have loads of fun, speak from experience...

lol... would you just ignore the "natives". flip, get out there. There must be pubs and clubs around you. Durban/Pinetown have some of the nicest, most friendly people in the country. You will be perfectly fine. :-)

I agree with Tay Jen. "Locals" as they like to call themselves along the Natal Coast are really stuck up at times. I lived in Scottburgh (You should have heard of it) and almost a year after moving there I one day referred to myself as "a local", everyone sorta rolled their eyes and said: Actually you need to live here for 10 years before you are a proper local!
Just ignore them. Make friends with someone from work, or better yet, go for a drive along the coast over the weekend to places like Amanzimtoti, Scottburgh, Durban etc.
Just visit the beaches, action bars and other places. Soon folks would start to recognize you and come over and talk.
Joe Cools along the Durban beach front is excellent, try and go there over the weekend.

LOL, poor you. There IS SO MUCH to do here at night. People come down from Johannesburg just to partie here.
Go the Joe Kools on beachfront to meet people that age. OR one of many clubs. Prefereably go with a local.

It is not that dangerous in South Africa. Stay in well lit areas and try not to travel alone at night.
