I have in most cases. I always try to end things positively, no need to burn your bridges because you're simply not compatible. It would seem a bit extreme to me not to speak or maintain a friendship of they call and just want to talk. Sometimes, however, it takes a while before you can be a friend, sometimes emotions are still involved. But I still talk to quite a few of my exes - I guess there is an exception to this for me though, I wouldn't be as friendly depending on how the relationship ended - if he/she cheated or was basically untrustworthy, I'd have distance myself somewhat. . any relationship is built on trust, even friendships. And if here were any kind of physical abuse, Holla -we have nothing to talk about.

I am still friends with some of my exes. But it does take time. One of you cannot want to be with the other one in any way, but friends. But it is really cool, because you have a friend that knows you really well, and can give you advice on the opposite sex, knowledgeably.

This day.. not many. I have been friends with my ex for a few years now, but it took a bit to get to that point. Feelings need to calm down before you can become friends again.

My mother-in-law & father-in-law divorced about 20 years ago. They have been able to maintain an adult, civil relationship. They don't hang out or anything but if my f-i-l cannot get in contact with my hubby, he will call my m-i-l if he needs to. They get along at their grandkids b'day parties & are a great example of how things should be-after the fact. They have always been like that, per my hubby.

I am friends with several of my x's, it's no big deal, It all depends on how mature the two of you are. You know which one to remain friends with, which one not to be alone with, which one to talk too and which one to run as far away as you can.

I still love my first and third wives. My second could be drowning and I'd throw her a cinder-block, but I am through with marriage. Three strikes, I'm out. In answer to your question, It is all up to the individual. What's the point in hating them. It usually ends up just costing you more money. (Alimony, child support, etc.)
