if you think the foley scandal is the only issue helping the democrats, you haven't been paying attention...in nearly every category and issue, surveys of likely voters have been saying that they favor the democrats over the republicans...traditionally, mid-term elections have been a referendum on the president's performance...with an approval rating below 40%, there is not much for the republicans to feel upbeat about...the loss of the house is extremely likely, and there will be losses in the senate as well, but probably not quite enough to change control...but without control of both houses of congress, abysmal approval ratings, an increasingly unpopular and messy war, the president will be pretty much emasculated...nice attempt at spin control, though...

News flash: The Democrats were in a strong position to take the House BEFORE the Foley scandal. They are still in a strong position to take the House. Foley may not have helped them much, but it certainly didn't hurt them.
As for Pelosi, well, even if the Democrats DO take the House, couldn't they PLEASE select a better speaker? Pelosi is such a firebrand, she'll alienate a lot of voters by the time 2008 rolls around. Pelosi as Speaker might be the best thing that could happen to the GOP.
Accoding to current polls, Democrats will take 4 Senate seats for sure, with two more possible. They need 6 for a majority. As for the House, they need 15, and they are practically guaranteed 18 with a good chance at 21-22.

I am shocked that those polled by CNN (a small percentage with a big margin for error) would actually say that the isolated Mark Foley incident is "extremely important" in deciding their vote. It is just another example of really stupid voting, like a draught horse with blinders on. There are many far more important issues.
I'm even more shocked that a recent Gallup poll showed that 40% of Americans had NEVER HEARD OF the extreme left Nancy Pelosi of Califormia and had NO OPINION of her. Pelosi may actually become Speaker of the House. If so, kiss your Constitutional rights goodbye.

in the latest CBS/ny situations poll, Democrats in Congress were given a 40 seven% approval score, yet Republicans were given in difficulty-free words a 28% approval score. until eventually they intend to interchange anybody in the course of the 2010 primaries, Republicans are going to proceed to have issues.

first off, you have this from a republican source, secondly, I'll take 20% along with bush's low acceptance rating any day of the week, it's just another nail in the coffin.
