I've been on it for about 7 years. I'm 27 and I take 25mg daily. It was prescribed to me for symptoms associated with Mitral Valve Prolapse. The three main reasons I want off - sex drive is pretty much gone, I want to have children in the next couple of years, and I don't want to be taking a pill everyday for the rest of my life unless it's a vitamin. I know Toprol can be a libido killer and I've read that you can't take Toprol while pregnant. How can I wean myself as I know you can't just abruptly stop taking it?

If the reason you were placed on Toprol was only mitral valve prolapse, stopping it should not be a problem. The dose you are currently on is very small. Therefore you would not likely need to be weaned off of it. If you were on a higher dose (the maximum dose is 200 mg daily), then you would need to be weaned.

You should discuss this with your doctor.
