Be more specific on what you need to do with the equation. If you want to simplify this:

4x^2-8x+3-5 = 5-5

4x^2-8x-2 = 0

2 (2x^2-4x-1) = 0

I assume you want to solve the equation. Have you had the quadratic formula yet? If not, then you will have to be able to use factoring or completing the square. Let's see.

Move the 5 to the right side.

4x^2 - 8x - 2 = 0 (standard form for a quadratic equation)

Factor out a 2.

2(2x^2 - 4x - 1) = 0

2x^2 - 4x -1 is not factorable. Assuming you have the quadratic formula, then use it for the equation

4x^2 -8x - 2 = 0. I will let you do that.

I will assume that you want to factor:

4x^2-8x+3-5=0
4x^2-8x-2=0
2x^2-4x-1=0
