I have major depression....when it gets real bad,I need to get away alone to clear my head. This can take a day or a week, but I never had someone be concerned for me before.I truly would never hurt someone or make them be scared for me,especially not when I care about them. I know ppl will say,"imagine how you would feel if he disappeared..." and while that's true,it doesn't come into it...depression makes you selfish..."I'm sad.I'm depressed,I can't go on living...".It's all about ME,unfortunately...but I want to apologise to him,to try to explain that this is how I cope with my bad memories...any suggestions, please?

Try purchasing some resources to help explain to him how depression works. Maybe if he understood better how you feel and what you are going through he would be more understanding. Secondly, really try to understand how he feels. When you care for someone you want to try and help that person through whatever is troubling them. When you don't let him help you he feels rejected, unworthy, and useless. This can causes some depression for him as well. Although not permanent and no where near what you are going through. You need to find a treatment that works for you so you don't continue to have these bouts of depression. When you have a family it is going to be awfully hard to just disappear and cope with your problems. Not to mention the fact that having a family can be a stress all by itself and could make your depression worse it left untreated. Good luck and God Bless!!!

Yes. It's true that when you are in it, you can't see what you are doing is hurting them. You didn't mean for it to be hurtful. But now that you are feeling better, you need to sit down with the people you love and who love you and tell them.

You should also considering getting some professional help. Even if you have had a therapist before or tried medications before you should try it all again. It is not good to just take off when you feel like that. It really can help.

Honesty.. Be compleatly honest. Even invite him to couples therapy, have a professional explain in details what you are going threw. It helps alot to have someone who isn't going threw this, talk to someone who is trained in these things.
A professional can answer any and all questions the two of you may have and offer suggestions to how you can work together. And dealing with depression and other mental disorders are so much easier when you have someone you know you can lean on.
Like the saying goes, 'What dosen't kill you makes you stronger.'

If you're in therapy which I recommend you should be,
it would be helpful to take him to your therapist.
So, he would understand what's going on with you.
Are you on any kind of medication for your depression?
Medication would help with your mood swings but it doesn't make the depression go away.
