it does not need to be more "acceptable".
why does it need to be anything besides one's own business?
the sooner we all just shut the f*** up about things related to hate, the less the haters CAN hate! people are people, and some suck! let's just move on....
(i know i'm not articulating this right, but maybe someone can run with it.)

The "Church", founded biblically on the day of Pentecost, is based and founded on God's Word found in the Holy Bible.
Man's interpretation of this document over the centuries has determined that God has said homosexuality is wrong. Read the whole document. It was deemed wrong IN THE TEMPLE. But since very few will actually "read and study to show thyself approved", you cannot hope for "the Church" to show acceptance. Whatever "Church" you are referring to.
Society is generally, although loosely, based on Christian principles. Although I have no problem with my many homosexual friends -- male and female -- many people do. The main complaint I hear is public displays of affection. Sorry, folks -- heterosexual displays of affection can be offensive as well.
Acceptability - getting much better. Right now I think it is far more acceptable to be a homosexual than it is to be a smoker!

Per the Bible, Im not sure if the Church as a whole will be entirely accepting of homosexuality, ever. Mainstream in society? it already is pretty mainstream.

There really is nothing that can be done about the Church. As long as religions base their belief system upon documents written thousands of years ago, there will be people who will interpret those teachings literally and demand that they be followed exactly, since it is "God's Word".
An example is the Judeo-Christian anti-homosexuality bias. The writer of Leviticus and Saul of Tarsus both indicated that "God" condemned homosexuality. Since the church relies on the "Word of God" for it's theological basis, unless God Herself comes out of the heavens and points a well-manicured finger at all of us and says in a loud voice "BE NICE TO GAY PEOPLE, I MADE THEM TOO!!", the church will continue to follow what it believes was the latest word on homosexualtiy from "God".
As for mainstream society - well, as long as the laws demand that there not be gay-bashing, or discrimination based upon sexual preference, then eventually, over time, MOST people will moderate their behavior.
This doesn't mean there still won't be jerks. There will always be jerks. There are jerks everywhere. There are jerks - especially Christian Religious jerks - who still think women belong in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant.
Hell gonna be FULL with jerks who THOUGHT they were going to heaven.

Well, if you are talking about homosexuality being accepted by the Christian church, it won't happen because the laws are made by God and not man.
But homosexuals are welcome to church anytime.
Also, in mainstream society, that won't happen, either. I can't see claiming a sexual lifestyle should give anyone any kind of rights except to do what they want in the privacy of their own homes.

Nothing really. Let's face it no matter how much people pretend and act all pc about it being OK, basically it's some form of problem. It might be either a mental problem or a physical problem (some sort of gene messed up somewhere). Either way, it is absolutely not normal and not all people ever will like it. Especially not when so many homosexuals make such a point of being camp, sexually promiscuous and different.
What makes you think it should be accepted as normal or acceptable?

The concept of Homosexuality opposes christian, islamic and judaic principles, if someone choose to live that lifestlye that is a personal issue but don't expect the church, mosque, or any other religious temple to modify traditional teaches in order to cater to a selected group.

Start off with having all of the homosexual priest come out of the closet. Then the homosexual politicians to come out of the closet. Then have them stop preaching the hate toward other people no matter who or what they are.
Also educate people about cultures and people. Also about science and biology. People are born who they are whether it be mentally handicapped, some form of syndromes, sexual identity which is biological (hermerphrodites), slow learners, genetic defects, physical defects. The american society chooses to hate or allienate those who are different from the main stream.

homosexuality is an abomination to the church, one of the few things we agree upon. It is unnatural, and perverse. They should not be accepted but rejected

I'm not sure why it's not acceptable now. I'm not a bible scholar, but I've read the New Testament and I remember Jesus saying allot more about love, tolerance and acceptance than against gays. Why have the most powerful and influential Christians forgotten "Love thy neighbor as thyself." "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."...etc, and somehow come up with "God hates gays."? Can we ever really know God enough to know what he likes or doesn't ? Didn't God make gays? If Satan made gays, didn't God make Satan? Could we ever surprise or disappoint God?
