I was stationed in S. Korea with the 2nd Inf Div around 1990. Whereas the south has definitely benefitted by our presence, the north is basically third world with glitter stuck on. Everything you see on tv, the parades, parties, dancing - is a farce. Probably done at gunpoint by troops off-camera. IF the NK's develope a real nuke missle it will be the only one they have, not very good to begin with and will have cost them what little $ thay have for such toys.
If they actually try to use it, I am confident we would respond by launching one of our own "small" missiles thier way. Ofcourse being PC and all we would probably give them fair warning to let them evacuate as many people as they could from whatever city we had chosen to bomb.
Kim Jong Il is a true sociopath, just like that a****le John mark Karr. If he did try to nuke S Korea, or Japan and we blew one of the NK cities away - he would honestly believe that it was our fault. Unfortunately, there are people in this country who would think the same.......
Excellent question! From.....an old soldier.

I think the following quote from the story linked below should show you that you are founded in your perceptions that North Korea is a bigger issue then Iraq.
"The United States is concerned that Japan, South Korea or perhaps Taiwan may want to develop their own nuclear weapons programs to counter the threat from North Korea. Such moves would anger China, which already has nuclear weapons, and raise tensions in the region."
Even without Japanese Nuclear weapons, if Japan feels that North Korea is a dangerous threat, then they can strike North Korea as a preemptive defense strike (such is within the guidelines of their constitution). Should that happen it will force China to defend North Korea, this in turn will force us to defend Japan, and South Korea (as they will instantly be dragged into the fight). When we back Japan, Russia will enter into the fracas on the Chinese side. I detailed much of this in the Theocon Nation web site back in August. I am providing the link as it has much more information then I can give you here.

They aren't a threat persay because they aren't agressive or angry with anyone... except with maybe south Korea. N Korea does have alot of /potential/ threat because of their recent nuclear technology advancement.
Iraq has alot more radicals in my point of view. I don't think there are as many people who hate the west as there are in Iraq. I'm not saying that we should be their either, but that Iraq had more angry people than N Korea does.

I am for sure! N. Korea has a psychopath for a leader who is "bragging" about using weapons that they may have. And you know something...Kim Jung Il is actually TELLING us that he has weapons and that he will use them. As for Iraq, Saddam repeatedly said that he doesn't have any weapons...and none were discovered. Yes, you can justify that we are in Iraq to "free" the people there but the main reason we went to war was disarmament! Are we confusing our allies and our enemies about what standards are countries should meet regarding nuclear weapons? I think so. It won't be long before other countries start building weapons while we are fighting another country who doesn't have any.

I believe we are our own biggest problem. The division of parties and ideals in this country is making us weak and we appear weak to other countries. Iran is our second largest threat and North Korea is the third.

The problem with North Korea is that the prez has not read Kim Jong Ill's 'Army centered thought'. This book states clearly that he wants a war with the US to destroy its imperialism. He is happy to go to the wall with the US; no room for compromise. He has discussed the coming war for years and trained his military for it alone.
