My doc prescribed a round of clomid. Along with it he wants me take a vaginal suppository of Prochieve which is like $250. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of or taken an alternative. And yes I plan on asking the doc, just was researching before I talk to him about it.

I use to take it, and not only is it very expensive, but it's messy. It's similar to taking monistat 7. My OB gives me Prometrium instead, which is an oral pill. I believe Prometrium is more widely used than the Prochieve, so if you have insurance, it may be covered. Also, my OB always has samples of the Prometrium for me. I take it from day 16 of my cycle until my period or until the end of my first trimester if I get pregnant. I took this in the past, along with Clomid, when I conceived my daughter (I actually conceived after switching to the Prometrium/200mg). I am ttc again on both meds.

If your OB says you have to take Prochieve, check out Costco if you have one near you. You don't have to be a member to get prescriptions filled. You can usually check their prices on line at Costco.com, but I couldn't find it. However, that may mean it has to be ordered. When I took used it while ttc my daughter., I think they usually ordered it for me. It ran about $10/day, so I was paying about $150/month when I wasn't conceiving. It also made my cycles longer. With the Prometrium, my cycles are normal. You might also want to check out the Clomid prices there too if they aren't covered by insurance. I pay about $15/month for five 50mg. pills.

I hope this info helps you. Good luck.

To answer "kooks80" (and anyone else), yes it is progesterone and it can be used for a number of things. I used it because I have a luteal phase defect which means my uterus lining doesn't get thick enough to sustain a pregnancy. The progesterone helps nourish and protect the embryo until the placenta can take over around the end of the first trimester.

Never heard of it. I took clomid but never had to take anything else. Is it like a progesterone or something???

Oh okay I understand, cool!
