You could always tell people about the charity so that they could check out whether what you say is fact or fiction. (I had a friend who claimed, in a magazine, that he was looking for computers for a charity, and I knew it was bogus. I did intend reporting him to the authorities about this, which encouraged him to give up on the idea.)
I'd go along with others who've already advised FreeCycle. There are many branches throughout the UK.

I don't know if you have heard about this but there is a scheme called FreeCycle, it is a yahoo group for different areas of the uk and there are many computers offered.

Free Cycle is definitely your best bet, this is the website for UK. Click on your area (or somewhere near by) and sign up. It works by ppl posting items they want to get rid of, and other ppl emailing them saying they want it. But you can also post 'wanted' messages - often very effective especially if you mention it's for a charity.
