I open doors for people, say my pleases and thank yous, etc but people either have bad, bad manners, are plain ole rude OR BOTH!! Someone can see you are following right behind them to go into the same door as they, yet they VERY seldom hold it open for you. You're reading something on a bulletin board, for example, and they walk right in front of you without saying "excuse me or pardon me"..... the list goes on and on. We just moved to Canada and Canadiansseem to be the WORST!!! My husband is Canadian and he is embarrassed to say he is............... he too finds rudeness all around him.

Perhaps, when I examine this further, people are actually more rude than in the past. However, this just makes me smile harder and say please/thank you louder!

Yes, I agree. I've gone to college off and on for over twenty years. The way kids acted when I was younger was VERY different than they way they act now. And I'm talking about college kids, not children. They're adults now, too and know how to act. But when I was a young college student, we had more common courtesy than people have today.
Example:
There was a girl/lady (#2) in my class that received an e-mail from another girl(#1). Girl #1 sent it to everyone in the class because she thought if was funny; she had no idea that there was anything offensive about it. Well, girl #2 that got offended, though there was nothing about the e-mail that even indirectly applied to her, tracked the e-mail back to the girl #1's fiance's workplace. She then contacted his workplace, which was in a whole other state and filed a complaint against him. That guy got fired from his job.
I can't think of an incident even close to that 20 years ago. It seems that people are a lot more sensitive these days. It's shocking really, when you think about it.
Sorry for rambling!

Around here I find most people are rude when they are in their vehicles, not so much when they are in stores or restaurants, etc. I am like you, please, thank you, excuse me, etc. but I find that those are returned by most. There is a high number of summer tourists around here & I find that there are certain cultural groups who are very rude & I do not mean this bad, but it is true. Asians, East Indians & the French tend to be extremely rude most of the time above others.....

yeah! i agree that most ppl are RUDE!.. but the thing is that it's not only canadians that r rude.. well.. i came to understand through experience that it's not the race or the color or the nationality that defines rudeness.. it's just whether they are 'well bred' or not.. u might want to find another term to address the ppl around u.. seriously, i've seen rudeness that makes me lose hope on humanity! no offense intended...

It's not just Canada. It's everywhere ! This generation of adults were not raised like we were. It amazes me every day. Same with illiteracy. Ever notice how people on this site can't spell or compose a simple sentence ? Unbelievable !

Most people are that way around me. It seems like people teach their kids less and less these days too.
