Wikipedia says the answer is D. They weren't focused so much on converting the natives at first, they were just there to take advantage of the people.

This is a tough question because Spain changes their postion after a few wars with England, and the collapse of their economy. The question you want though is the start of colonization though so that would be the export of gold (A). The moto of the conqistadors is God,Gold, and Glory. All of the other answers are close but it is the early part of colonization you want. Look at the 2 Empires that were conquered from 1513 to 1534, and the influx of wealth into the Spainish markets

It cant be (B) because all the Moors, and Jew were expelled before Columbus even set out on his journey.

It cant be (c) because the crown more more interested in wealth of their nation after spending money to reconquer their lands from the Muslims.

(D) Is off becasue they had no idea that their would be natives in the New World.

(E) Spending money to get rid of prisioners seems like a waste of money, and time for explorers. Their were no penal colonies in the New World on top of it.
