Has anyone encountered a scam where someone sends you a cashiers check for no reason and with no return address? How about to a company not just an individual?

If so, what happens when you cash the cashiers check?

I heard of something similar in my area, however the company asked the guy who received it to keep $700 and send the rest of the money to there company via Western Union ($1800). When the gentleman called the bank and asked what would happen if he cashed the check, he was told that it was a scam and had he cashed it without calling first his account would have been overdrawn by $2500 because it takes the bank approximately 2 weeks before they realize that a check isn't any good. I suggest if you have received one these check that you do not cash it.

Yes. It will most likely be followed up with some pitiful story about how they were trying to help their mother with cancer and could you please cash the check and keep some but send the rest back.

Your best bet would be to take the check to your bank manager and ask him/her to investigate the legitimacy or source of the thing. Under no circumstances should you cash it. The fees upon return would be awful.

It may be to sign up for a loan. I have seen loan companies send checks and if you cash it, then you have to pay it back with interest.
