Hi all,

I need to format my harddrive (sigh) and I was thinking the best way to save my music would be to put it all onto my ipod and then transfer them back. Is that possible?

Also...can't I also save files on my iPod?

Thanks for the help!!!

you can save files to your iPod but you have to set it to storage drive mode. Here's how...

You can transfer music back to your computer but you need software to do it. Since you have a PC, check out copypod. There is a free 14 day trial so you can try it here http://www.copypod.net/

I always recommend that you back up your songs to CD's or DVD's just incase of a problem. Hard drives and iPods can fail and if you don't have your data backed up on some other media, you will be out of luck. I hope this helps! =)

You can only transfer music from your iPod to your hard drive if you purchase software to do it. It isn't expensive, though. There are lot of different software packages out there, so read the reviews to find a good one. The one below has a good rating.

Also, it might be better in the long run to purchase an external hard drive (or a hard drive enclosure and an internal hard drive - sometimes it's cheaper) and backup everything to that first. You can get a decent one for less than $100. You really should make a habit of frequently backing up your stuff, whether it's on CD's or an external hard drive.

Yes, but you need to format your iPod as a disk drive first then save the music on it. You can't download the music from the iPod in its music format.

I don't think you can put songs from an ipod to a PC....why not burn all your songs as MP3's on a disc or two before you format your hard-drive. Then you KNOW you have them, and can re-load them to your PC when you're done.
