Yes, he calls and while he is waiting for her to answer, he realizes that "Simon" aka Peter Gruber gave up his location when he tossed John the last of his aspirin and the bottom of the bottle said Nova Scotia, Simon's location. And as he runs to get Simon you hear her voice.

As far as I remember he calls her twice in the film and both times he hangs up or gets distracted before he speaks to her.
