Right click on the buttons, and select customize. See if you can add the buttons back. If not, your Internet Explorer is corrupted. You should try windows update to see if it can be fixed automatically. Or get the latest version of Internet Explorer if yours is not up to date.
Otherwise, ask a computer guy to stop your computer and check it out for you. There are just too many solutions and not enough specifics on the problems for me to help you further.

I assume you are using Windows Explorer.
In the top of the window, you will see a line that says:
File Edit View Favourites Tools Help.
Clik on View and choose TOOLBARS and then make sure that there is a checkmark next to STANDARD BUTTONS.

To me yours is the Mystery House but you might find your back button with a right-click. Sorry can't be more help.

You have a new little house...it's blue look on your right side.
Your new back and forward buttons are the two blue arrows on the top left !
