I am a 53 year old female. Just in the last year it seems like my brian isn't functioning the way it should. Kinda foggy in fact. I am taking meds for RLS and I feel as though it makes me kinda slow.
I do take Ginkgo to help. Is it just the age or is there something that can help expand my brain in the right way. I am a single woman and have to have a job to survive and hate to have my brain cells die out. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Thanks,

Omega 3 fish oils can help, also as the saying goes "If you dont use it, you lose it" Keep your mind active. Do puzzles, learn new things, read and you could always buy one of those PSP thinggies that you can get brain trainers for :D

Foggy brain syndrome is a very common symptom in women going through menopause or after a hysterectomy. Our brains are just wired to work better with estrogen.

Talk to your doctor about taking "bio-Identical Hormones." These are hormones that are NOT synthetic and mimic your natural hormones.

I don't mean to plug anyone, but Suzanne Somers has 3 books on bio-Identical hormones, and she explains it very well on what is a good hormone and what is a harmful hormone.

There was a big scare about hormones a few years ago, but that was all about synthetic hormones. Plant based bio-Identical hormones can give you relief from foggy brain AND be safe. It will also make you feel more like a woman because it will increase your libido.......big time!

FYI - not all gyn docs are comfortable with bio-Identical hormones. There is no profit in things that are plant based and natural, so therefore pharmaceutical companies aren't out there pushing and marketing them to the physicians. Call around and find a doctor who is familiar with the term "Bio-Identical." Most gyn docs who specialize specifically with menopause will know what you are talking about.

They will probably test your saliva and blood first to find out what your baseline hormone level is and then go according to that and your symptoms. You can also take bio-Identical hormones many ways. You can take pills, patches, and even a cream.

I wasn't sure what RLS meant. Restless leg syndrome??? I know that most people are prescribed meds for parkinson's for restless leg syndrome, and that can have a sedating effect or foggy brain type side-effect. You may be right that is the cause. If RLS means something else, I don't know.

Good luck to you

Oh Connie!

Look into natural progesterone.
Foggy brain is one of the symptoms that you have more estogen than progesterone in your body. Are you postmenopause? If so, you are making almost NO progesterone, as it is made as you ovulate. :(

RLS can also be a symptom of estrogen dominance.

Read up on estrogen dominance. Try a book called "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause" by Dr. John Lee. You can browse his website at http://www.johnleemd.com.
