I am 21 years old, I used to wear makeup in high school for modeling, but I stopped like 4 years ago. Now I don't even know where to start. I tried the bare minerals, but none of their colors matched my skin tone.
I have dark skin, brown eyes, my face is oval shaped. I want to look natural. I think that's it. Oh yeah and what brands.....

Have you ever tried Everyday Minerals at everydayminerals.com? The company sends samples for free. My favorite foundation in this brand is Intensive, which is just perfect.

If you are a woman of color, MAC is very good with matching skin tone. I know Fashion Fair is so your mother's brand but they do know who to get foundations and powder right. Go to the department store and get a makeover. Tell them you are adament that it look natural. They'll take the hint. Write down the recommendations then buy the stuff cheaper on ebay or something.

Also, Sephora is awesome for the ability to test the products yourself without a hassle. But all this is for upscale (expensive stuff) cosmetics.

You could try American Beauty in the Kohl's chain. Made by Estee Lauder (parent company of MAC BTW) but at drugstore prices. Set up like Sephora so you can try everything yourself.

Staying natural means sticking to neutral colors, lipgloss instead of lipstick, no liners of any type (eyes or lips) and very light if any foundation. Less is best. There are no other hints. Try and find what works for you.

Don't buy all your pieces from the same company. Mix cheap with expensive and Maybelline with Lancome when you find the right stuff.

Good luck. It is a shame there aren't better brands for you.

There are lots of great products for what you are looking for...

If you are interested in a light liquid foundation that will match your skin tone, I suggest tying L'Oreal HIP foundation, REAL Cosmetics foundation (for light coverage) and available at sephora, or Classified Cosmetics ERA Face spray foundation (medium to heavy coverage), also available at sephora. For Powder formulations, try either a custom blend from Prescriptives or Bobbi Brown. If you are looking for natural mineral makeup, Jane Iredale has a new collection comming out for all women of color which will be amazing!

If you are also looking for concealers, try three custom color, amazing cosmetics, or prescriptives which have a great darker color range and excellent forumuations. P.S. If you use the ERA Face foundation you will not need concealer!

you don't to splash out on makeup if you just want a natural look... for your foundation.. well, it all depends on the coverage you want, if you have good skin use a tinited moisteriser or if you need more coverage go for a foundtion but just use it where you need it.. if you tend to have more oily skin then use a powder, if dry then use liquid.. if your skin is normal then it doesnt matter! as for your eyes and lips i would go for very natural colours.. i think dark browns would look great on you! start off with a dark brown eyeshadow and finish with either brown or black eyeliner and mascara. if you would like a bit of a glow in your face then try a highlighter, this looks great on your brow and cheekbones! finish with a very sheer lip gloss and your good to go! as for the brands it depends how much your looking to spend.. you can buy very reasonable priced makeup in drugstores which will work great for the look you want! if your looking to spend a little more go to a department store and ask the sales people on the counters to help you! and remember.. dont be scared.. its their job!! good look! You can get a natural look from just about any leading cosmetics brand. Its unfortunate that there was not a match with Bare Minerals, I've heard awesome things about their products. I recommend going to a cosmetics department such as Clinique, Chanel, or MAC. They will be able to tell you what products to use and even show you how to apply them.

I would just use a tinted moisturizer, some cream blush, maybe a little loose powder- depending on how oily your skin is (mine is and I hate it) titned lip balm is good, nothing to shiny that looks like your lips were waxed. Minimal eye makeup. I have brown eyes and for natural I just apply one coat of mascara. I use Maybelliene full and soft- it works great. No eyeliner or eyeshadow.

Simple buy make up that is all natural, like mineral wear from physicians formula or ID bare essentials etc. Also nude hues are in for fall this year. If you can go bare more power to you add a dab of blush and gloss and magnificence.

I have the same problem too--foundations are always to yellow or too dark for my skin tone. I found that MAC has excellent tones for colored people, however their products are usually thick. If you are going for natural, just use a light complexion powder, blush, mascara, and lip gloss.

Good luck!

Try Flirt! Cosmetics at Kohls. They have a variety of skin colors. I'm Indian and I haven't been able to find a decent foundation, and I tried Flirt! and it worked. They have testers, makeup removers, and decent lighting. Also, Prescriptives color matches your foundation guaranteed, but it is expensive for a high school student.

the face: use lotion that works good for you, don't follow, the stuff on T.V because everybody is didffernent ,and has different skin,so use a lotion that you used before.apply it everywhere even on your neck.then wait for it to dry all together.,put the foundation on,where ever you put lotion,or if you want on the neck.then if you spot the shiny skin part, and you want your face to look natural, take powder that matches your skin tone, and rub it will with the buffer thing,or your hand,or brush.make sure you have even skin tone.

eyeshadow:choose a general color(red, blue green etc..) and have three different colors of same family(light meduim, dark)then choose the light color one,and glide it gently by your lashes(it is okay to get the powder on your lashes) if you are having truoble ask a parent (a mom) or friend,to do what you say! then when you are done gliding,(when you glide use the edge line,of the foam eyeshadow tool) so when you are done, take the meduim, and make it a little think of a color,on your second layer.when you are done, take abrush and gently glide it on your color(i said gently) it will look mush better, and then take the dark one,and gently put on top ,of the both colors(if you think it looks to much, take the brush and glide on the colors,it will look cute(if you don't like the way i'm saying it,just take on color, you like, and make it small,so only a little part can see,so you look natural) NOW YOU CAN take the mascara and and slowly swip the BLACK mascara,if want to look natural ,don't put on the bottem!

eyeliner: if eyeshadow is not your thing,or if you like eyeshadow, and want to put eyeliner, you still will look good! (i prefer,to put little eyeliner,if putting eyeshadow, but if you are not putting eyeshadow make it a little thiker.now take the black eyeliner pencil, and line it close to your lash line as possible.draw it by your inner eye, thin and as you go further, make it thiker.make sure it is a qauter of an inch, then, use the eyeliner, and trace over it,and extend it after the quater inch line, and don't curve it up,it will curve by it self when eye's are lift.

LIPS: now it lips time,(TIP: to make your lip big,use tooth brush and rub on your lips,)if you like natural lips, take clear lipgloss it is never out of style.if you like the look so far, take the lipstck you like and and rub on your lips once, and gloss it ! make sure,if you want to look natural, use brown eyeshadow, but i would prefer not to put eyeshadow for starters or experts(the hollywood stars do alot of makeup)now clear lipgloss ROCKS!

YOU ARE NOW BEAUTIFUL!

HOPE I HELPED ALOT!
