You need a copy of your ballot when leaving the polls. The county website needs that ballot posted publically for all to see! Thier is no other basic form of check & balence for the public other than the current INSIDERS wanting anything but this or no change at all!

why do you think our government wants to keep everything secret? Do you really think bush would be president if we had checks & balances?

Do you realize that making ballots public or keeping a copy of your ballot leaves you open to intimidation from those who would influence your vote?

Concerned about fraud? Get educated about how voting is done in your area. Volunteer to help with elections. In small areas you can easily become one of the so-called "insiders" and work at the polls the day of the election and you'll see if they are legit.

Want to change things? Organize people (legally) who agree with you to vote. Get them to the voting booth on election day.
Volunteer to work for someone you want elected.

Want to spend your whole life blaming others when you don't like election results? Stay home and whine.

If you believe there is a problem then you should try to fix it. Remember, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

Verification that a cast ballot was counted and that each individual only is able to vote once is quite possible without having a trail that indicates how each individual voted.

Personally I prefer the paper ballots to electronic ones. It is fairly easy to ensure that each voter only gets one ballot. It is also easy to do a re-count should there be a dispute. In doing a re-count there is absolutely no need to be able to trace each individual vote to the person who marked the ballot.

Electronic ballots can also be made secure. However, I don't trust them as much.

Not really. You vote in secret (this is to make sure that no one intimidates you later or tries to get revenge if their own candidate doesn't get in) and then they give you a copy of your vote for your own safekeeping. They then count the votes. Usually there is no major problem and everyone knows who won for sure.

But in the case where there may have been voter fraud of some kind the county can then go back and get you to bring that verification back to make sure the verification vote and the original votes match up to the same number. Then it could no longer be a secret, but up until it reaches that point and only if it actually does reach that point will secrecy be necessary to be relinquished, not before.

Open public viewing could start a whole host of new problems. Your employer could see how you voted, and if he didn't agree with your political opinions, find reasons to make your work life a living hell or maybe even terminate your position. Then there's the possibility of politically driven hate groups seeking out those within the county who didn't vote by what they considered appropriate, harassing these people by varying degrees.

While you do raise and interesting point of view, I dare say that there are consequences to the alternative that you propose.

I disagree, strongly. The system worked for centuries without publicizing people's votes. Just go back to paper if you don't like computers.

Interesting how people came up with all these concerns about voting when the Democrats started to lose. Sounds fishy to me.

Voting verification should take place before you cast your vote. I don't want anyone to know who I've voted for because it's none of their business. I am accountable to only God and my conscience. Besides- if one votes for a candidate that ends up sucking rocks then they get what they voted for! What could be better than that? lol

Have a great day!!!

If they keep on doing as they have done in the last 2 elections THEY WILL DESTROY THE AMERICAN DEMOCRACY FOR SURE. There should be an independent Election commission which do not have to tow any bodies line

This is our rock and hard place: vote in open and be retaliated against, or vote in secret and let the electoral college negate your choice. Welcome to the Americanized, watered down version of Democracy.

i think we are thinking among the same lines.

i always say, when we go vote we show our voter registration card. then they make us line up for the booth in the same order as we signed. i believe they are keeping tags on us all along!
