Good question with no good answer, basic human rights is the key phrase. It is not ok to torture and if Bush is not careful he will be before an international court for the atrocity's that are being committed on these prisoners of war. Which is what I think should happen, the president of the United States is not and should not be above the law.

Well, actually, we do uphold the Geneva Conventions. Geneva was never meant to protect illegal combatants who violate every Geneva requirement. That our Supreme Court decided, against all precedent, that the terrorist prisoners magically had Geneva rights does not mean that we had violated anything.
But our ROE are Geneva compliant - as a signatory state, we are still subject to obey the rules.

answerman gave the only good answer I've seen so far. it's about human rights and the president has overstepped his bound. and as for those that say "they don't' use the Geneva Convention rules why should we?" because if you want to be the better nation you have to act the part, dropping to their level makes us thugs, not a moral nation.

In Vietnam we dealt with people running into Buddhist Monastery's. Typically a few mortar rounds and pumping 50's into it would take care of anyone in the place.
As a matter of principal we would routinely kill everyone in a Catholic Church, in the spirit of fairness.
The un official USMC motto "Kill'um all and let God sort it out"
Go big Red Go

No uniform with insignia means they are not soldiers but enemy combatants.
If a shot is fired or it is used as a military facility the rule about houses of worship do not apply
The terrorists do not follow the Geneva convention, why don't you complain about that?
