Chips...eh...I really dont recommend a chip unless you're physically reprogramming it...and thats kind for the performance aspect. Some of the "chips" are junk. Some are not. Just have to do some research on chips. I personally dont recommend the Chip HP boost that are selling on ebay. I know someone who screwed up their car dealing with one of the radio shack chips.
To get a little boost in MPG...try adding a grounding kit to the car. It will give a slight boost in HP and add a few to the MPG...it also dresses up the engine bay a little.
On long trips on the highway...use cruise control. It eliminates the up and down speeds and keeps the flow constant.
Keep tire pressure up.
those little things can build up some gas mileage.

There is different stuff you can try. You can try maybe a cold air intake or maybe a performance muffler. The Scion XB has a really small engine for that type of vehicle. With only a 1.5L 4 cylinder rated only at 106 horsepower, the engine has to work really hard to get the acceleration that someone would expect. It weighs about 300LBS more than the Scion XA and the fact that its the least aerodynamic vehicle that I have ever seen doesn't help the gas mileage at all. But with 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, why complain?

That goes in the same category as the carburator that gets 100 mpg. To get better mileage you have to change your driving habits. Start slow, don't speed. If you are coming up to a red light - coast. If it turns green while you are coasting, accelerating from even a slow speed is much more fuel efficient than from a dead stop. Don't carry a lot of junk in the car. The more weight the lower the mileage. Keep your tires inflated.

There may be chips out there to solve your gas mileage problem. BUT i dont recommend it because some chips are illegal in some states, and cops will find it, and you will be fined. also if you have a problem with your chip, it can screw your car up severely, and it will be hard to fix. unless you know alot about cars.
To fix gas mileage problems, you can go to your local auto parts store, and ask them what you should get to increase gas mileage, also if there is a car maintenence store, you can get your oil tank flushed out and everything to do with oil cleaned out.

i dont believe so, the best way to get the best MPG is to drive slower, don't use the a/c. don't start the a/c as soon as you start the car. don't accerlate fast.

So how much fuel mileage did you expect to get from something as aerodynamic as a brick?
