Sim Card is (Subscriber Identity Module, i.e. SIM). It just store specific information about the user, and, can be modified.
Cell Phones work similar to Walkie-Talkies, HAM Radios or CB Radios. They broadcast on a certain frequency and use this as codes to access a Tower. Which then acts as a relay to the Cell Phone you call or home phone. Just like a Home Phone each Cell phone uses a Phone Number specific to that phone. The only difference a Cell not connected with wires like a home phone. The Cordless Home Phone works similar to a cell phone on a small scale as it transmits to a Relay (Base) using a specific frequency, only they are contained to a limited range. IF, a person had a Cordless handset (Same brand as yours) and was close enough to your house they could possibly use your phone line. The only thing that would prevent this is; cordless phones use random access frequencies/codes that can change so the other phone would need to be on this same frequency/code.
