I've been without services for almost 7years now, due to lack of funds, but I know that it is time for a regular check-up. Where can I find help? Also, I have looked for reasonably priced service providers but I couldn't afford it. Now, I am simply asking for help concerning my health and my well-being as a young minority woman.

what do you need done? I mean if it's just a check up that's like 60-80 bucks. Do you need a pap smear or a mammogram or std tests? Go to planned parenthood...

I know your issue, i am having the same one. I have medical through school but i do not have dental and have had some teeth problems lately which have forced me to go and pay out of pocket. The first time i went my mother helped me out but the next visit i am going have to save up for and it is not cheap. If you have a serious lack of funds you may qualify for state medical assistance. Some states like mine have small clinics in the area that have medical and dental services for people who cannot afford it and do not qualify for the state insurance. You have to look at your options. I would also highly recommend shopping around for a dentist they charge different rates. And while a check up and cleaning are expensive the whole thing should be on average $140 so save those pennies and go in a few months if you do not need it right away. some dentists offices also have payment plans so that you don't have to pay it all at once. Good luck to you, i wish health care was free, it would make things so much easier and less stressful, especially for those of us who came from a poor background.

A regular cleaning at a dentist will set you back $50 at a 'cheap' dentist and about $80 at a really good one. Let them know you are without insurance and they will not take 100 X-Rays to keep the cost down for you.

As for a check-up. There are clinics all over that offer services for around $50. That is a lot better then spending $500/month on medical insurance that you don't know if you are even going to use or not.

Some cities have free clinics, both for dentists and doctors, that are set up for people who don't have sufficient funds to go for regular treatment. Heaven forbid an emergency, but you can always go to the hospital for true emergency treatment and if the hospital recieves any type of federal funds you can file under the Hill-Burton Act and it will be free. When you are admitted, be sure when you sign your name write underneath your signature, filed under the Hill-Burton Act, so they can't make you pay for services that you can't afford. If there are no free clinics in your area, sometimes the health departments have some clinics or the social worker at the health department might be able to refer you somewhere for help. Go to the Public Health Dept. in your county and they should be able to help you. There are doctors that do "sliding scale" fees for everyone. Or you may qualify for free services. At any rate, get there NOW! Godloveya.

What about clinics? Social Services? I know some clinics are free like planned parenthood or local health clinics. Dentists are much harder.

call your local health department and tell them that you are looking for low income health care and they should be able to put you through to someone who can help you.
