To register a business name you need to go to your state department of commerce (it may be called something else in your area) and pay a small fee. You will also probably be required to apply for a business license from the city or the county that you do business in. For your federal tax id number check the link below. Check with your state tax commission to see if you will also need a state tax id number.

To start your business you don't necessarily have to have a tax id #. You can do the business under your name dba (insert business name here). This will be good if you going to be a sole proprietorship. My advice is to contact your local, city/county office and see what their requirements are for a business license, then to contact the state office. Both offices should be able to advise you if you need additional licensing or if you must meet specific requirements. Also, www.irs.gov has some great information about starting your own business. Good Luck

Start at your state's homepage. There should be a section to register your business name, apply for a business license if needed, and then it should direct you to the IRS's website to apply for an EIN. Once you have your EIN, you can setup a business bank account and move forward.

You can accquire a tax I.D. # through an accountant and you register your company name through your state licensure. Best info is to be an LLC instead if an Inc. Good luck!

It is impossible to answer this without knowing where the business is to be located.
