Building a couch would be a good deal of work and you would need carpentry and upholstery skills. You can check the library on a book to build furniture(there are many) to get a good idea of the scope as well as complete plans, materials needed and tool required. A simpler project would be to build a Futon, then you can either use a futon mattress or pillows as you see fit (2 sites below). Good Luck!
