Am trying to decide between study abroad in two cities, Edinburgh or London - pros and cons about even for both, now just down to choosing, and am wondering, I know London weather is supposed to be moderately better (but still bad) but is there that big a difference?

Edinburgh is probably colder and windier, but it's a drier cold, and to me doesn't seem as cold as London. Maybe I've just been lucky when I've been there.

I lived in both and was raised in the desert so cold weather I would notice :-) London can get very cold, especially around January. However, Edinburgh has more cold days overall, but I personally did not really notice a difference between the temps (when it gets below a certain degree cold is just cold) and you get used to it after a couple of months anyway. Just know that you have to layer clothing and not wear one big coat. I always loved the misty mornings in Edinburgh, like out of an old movie.

Deciding where to study would be more about the culture than the weather, if you mean actually studying in London and not a town outside of London. London is a big city with a definite big city feel (like New York in the States). Edinburgh is more small town quaint laid back atmosphere. So which you will prefer depends on if you want a big bustling environment with lots of theater, clubs, etc or a quieter more bohemian lifestyle. I personally prefer Edinburgh (the old town more so than the new areas) but I dislike big cities for an extended period. Whichever you choose, the other is not far away and you can visit on weekends. Have fun!

Add-On: In regard to the comment above, I lived in Edinburgh all winter (granted a few years back so maybe things have changed with the shifting of the global patterns and all); it never snowed once while I was there. Some of the northern cities had snow but not in Edinburgh. In fact, the only time I saw snow was in January in London!

Both are beautiful busy cities..I think Edinburgh is colder and wetter..I think you may find the people in Edinburgh more friendly..cost of living will be higher in London ..but really its not an easy choice as both places will be super cities to study in with good reputations for Educational Facilities.

The major difference is that Edinburgh is usually a lot cooler, especially in the summer months. You will find both cities have fairly low rainfalls (less than 30" per year) and hardly any snow.

Edin' rains way more than in London! and is much more colder in winter.
London hardly gets snow now. but Edin' gets snow every year.

If you like messy cold weather head for Edin' for a much more clam, warm atmosphere study in London!

If I were you however, I wouldn't study in either city, head for countryside Universities, they offer a better place to study away from the city life which can be so distracting and depressive when you're studying.

you bet their is London does get the best weather in the UK but Edinburgh has to have the worst weather ever , in winter it has to be the coldest place on earth.
