I am 25 years old and have been on birth control since I was 17. I have never taken any breaks or time off from the pill. I was wondering if and when I do decide to have a baby...will it take me a long time to conceive. Most of my people say being on the pill for a long time could keep you from getting pregnant when you’re ready to conceive. Help?

Taking the pill won't effect your chances of getting pregnant. When you're ready to start trying, you will probably be advised to wait a few months to let your hormone levels return to normal.

Absolutely not going to be a problem. I actually also switched from the pill to the depo for 2 years. Which is harmful now and is you are supposively not able to get pregnant until almost a year and a half after that. Im currently pregnant and got pregnant our first month trying after being taken off all birth control-- never a problem. My best friend also has been on it since she was 15 and she is now 24 years old. She missed taking it one time and got pregnant a couple years ago. My doctor told me as well that you can get pregnant days after going off the pill. Hope this helps.

I guess it depends on the type of pill you've been taking, but I know a young lady about your age that got pregnant IMMEDIATELY after stopping the pill, so you should consider that too. Don't stop the pill till you are sure that you are ready to conceive! The people with problems conceiving are usually the ones that had the problems with the pill too or other physical problems, do you have any? God Bless, Martha S

I am 24 and been on the pill since I was 14. I have spoken to my doctor about it and he says it cannot hurt your chances of getting pregnant, breaks or no breaks! Make sure you stop taking it 1 year prior to trying to conceive...I will have to do it soon too!

I've been on Birth Control since I was 15 (for heavy periods) and I'm 21 now and still taking them without a break.

My mother took birth control for 12 years straight and as soon as she stopped taking it got praganet with me 2 weeks later!!
So I don't think you'll have problems conceiving, would practice safe sex for a month after you stop taking the BC, then go nuts!

Good luck! and.. have fun! ;)

It can have an effect, but it is not guaranteed. I know someone who took 3 yrs and that still didnt work. I also know someone who got pregnant on day one of having s*x without using the pill. Just be aware that it could take longer.
