I am a nanny for 2 children. One is in school most the day, he gets home at 3:00 and I am there until 5:30. I start at 7:30, the other child is home full time. Not only do I watch their child, I do all basic needs for the child (bathe them, cook for them) but I also care for their house, do their laundry, and cook dinner for them. I also sometimes grocery shop and what not. I also help with the older childs homework and drive him to and from soccer. I used to get paid 400 a week, but they siad they were having money problems and cut me to 350 a week. The thing is they both have good jobs, one works for the Big 3 in a high position, the other owns a flooring company andthey dont cut back anyplace else. like they eat out for lunch everyday, even outside of work lunches. They have talked about packing a lunch but never do. In the summer they go camping every weekend. It seems they could cut back else where. Should I ask for a raise or is my pay good? Other nannys get 10/hr in the area

Also, I wanted to add I do not get rembuised for my milage. I pick up the child 2x a week from schoo, he goes to a private school 30 miles away and I do a lot of their running around.

Assuming you work 5 days/week, you are making 7/hour .... I wouldn't do it. I don't babysit for someone at that pay rate. Now ... I am assuming some things here - 1. you are a professional (meaning, not a HS dropout or something) you really care about these kids - or you probably wouldn't still be there
2. If they're not willing to change, you may be forced to find another job
3. You're becoming frustrated with this situation

Well ... my advice is that you're most likely worth more - ask for it. If they're not willing to pay you what you're worth - find another job. My guess is that they'll have a hard time finding someone to replace you. It sounds to me that they don't really respect you and don't know what you really do all day.

As far as mileage goes - I figure you drive your personal car (or it wouldn't be an issue) - IF you track your mileage throughout the year, you can claim it as a deductable on your taxes. OR you have the family pay you mileage - current rate is about .42/mile.

In short - ask for a raise, ONLY if you're willing to either accept if they say no, or are willing to find another job. And - record mileage.

You are raising these children for 350 a week. Tell them to give you a raise and quit if you dont. Alot of people who have nannies and babysitters will take advantige and do **** like this.

i think they should be able to afford 400. i wish i had your job but at one time i did in a way . i watched 5 at once too bad my own. but i do believe you deserve 400. because you are like the most important link to their children and if they like you and you are trusted its time to pay up. my boss is the same she is going and doing and we earn not much then she goes the checks aren't good for a day or two no money? so i plan to search elsewhere in the future.

yes you should ask for a raise and you should never have accepted a paycut...these parents should be ashamed of the way they are taking advantage of you....tell them you need a raise or they can go out and see how hard it will be to break in a new nanny that the kids like and one they as parents can trust...speak up now or forever hold your peace!

These look like clever people. no use arguing with them. They're plain flaunting the money and underpaying you!

What you could do is tell them that you are in a financial crisis and need more pay... sound desparate and sweet talk them into it... like they did to you!

Good luck!

It seems it is a full time job so you should get full time pay. Ask for $2500 per month..
