1. Shut down the computer.
2. Leave the computer plugged into the surge suppressor.
3. Disconnect all peripherals from the computer.
4. Remove the cover of the chassis.
5. Ground yourself to the computer. If you have a grounding strap, put it on and follow its directions. Otherwise, ground yourself by touching a metal part of the chassis.
6. Remove the back panel, if necessary.
7. Remove the existing sound card, if any. Put the new sound card into that slot if it will fit physically. Skip to Step 11.
8. If the computer doesn't already have a sound card, find an open PCI slot. PCI slots are smaller than ISA slots.
9. Knock out or unscrew the metal plate on the card's slot holder on the back panel.
10. Insert the sound card gently but firmly into the slot. Rock it into position if necessary, but don't force it. Don't touch any connectors on the card.
11. Connect cables from the CD-ROM drive to the sound card.
12. Replace the back panel and any removed screws. Screw sound card into slot holder if it has a screw hole.
13. Reconnect monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Connect speakers to the sound card's ports.
14. Turn on the speakers and restart the computer.
15. If Windows detects the sound card upon startup, follow instructions to install the card's driver and additional software. If Windows doesn't detect sound card, manually complete the installation using the Add New Hardware control panel.
16. Play music CD to test sound card.
17. Shut down computer.
18. Replace cover of computer. Reboot computer.

Before you do anything else remove the existing sound card drivers from Windows. Go to 'start', 'control panel', 'system', 'hardware', devise manager'. Go down the list to 'sound, video and game controllers. and delete these entries. It sounds much harder than it is. Next shut down your computer and remove the side panel. If you have a seperate sound card in a PCI (white) slot undo the screw and remove it. If the sound card is combined on the motherboard then just remove a blank for a PCI slot, and plug in your new card. Fit the screw, close up the computer and restart. It should ask for the drivers. Insert the CD that came with the card and away you go, just follow the instruction.

You have to remove the side panel of your case which usually slides off once you remove the two screws that hold it in place. The two screws are usually along the side on the back of your case. Once the side of your case is open, you use a screwdriver to remove the slot that you want your sound card. Remember not to use the bottom PCI slot. Once the slot is removed, the card should simple slide right in place and you can replace the screw that was holding the that in place.

You'll have to open your computer up. There's a green card on the inside of your computer that'll be screwed into the back, Unscrew that card and remove it from the PCI slot, then install the new card and load the drivers. If you're just having a problem with the sound, then reinstall the drivers you already have.

nicely in the experience that your unlucky like me, as quickly as I as much as date my previous laptop from xp to 7 it would not know the previous kit. So I had to purchase a valid card, additionally. It quite common to place in. (unplug the laptop) in simple terms take off the ingredient panel and maximum laptop's have 2 or 3 slots that the cardboard is going into. Unscrew one empty plate, setting up the cardboard matching the grove that's opposite of the carved out area the place the gold connections are. It kinda is going in on an attitude and don't touch the gold connections. whilst that's put in, use the screw from the plate and screw the cardboard in. i don't think of that it got here with a cd, so in simple terms plug in laptop and whilst it reboots, it quite is going to grasp a clean plug and play gadget. it quite is going to bypass via its gyrations and probably come back with a menu to establish the sound, that's controlled by utilising you. So play something once you're making the transformations, so as which you have the final stability. Ahhh... I see you do have a cd. ok once you plug it lower back in, positioned the cd in and activate you laptop and after your laptop boots up, it quite is going to examine the disk and supply you on demonstrate instructions.

I *think* you're talking about the "blanks" that are on the back covering unused slots. These can be popped or pryed out using a screwdriver or other tool.
