or what is called the proverbial 'everything' here in the West? What was that like, to percieve that you lost it all?

I have had to "start over from scratch" twice in my life. The saddest part isn't the value of your possessions, but the memories that some of the little things held. It's not an easy task, but it has taught me to remember what is truly important in life. Material things will always come and go, it's the people you meet, the memories you have, and the moments you share, that are truly important.

I've lost "stuff" and I've lost at love before. To lose the latter was much more psychologically detrimental than to lose the former. Curiously, when I felt I had lost everything and when subsequently I stopped looking for that which I had lost, I wound up with more than I had lost.

It wasn't that bad to lose all my material things - it has happened a couple of times in my life, and I survived just fine. Life doesn't end when the stuff is gone, and actually without having to maintain all that "stuff" you find more free time to get on with your life.

I did, it wasn't really that bad once I got used to the idea. Since then I haven't let possessions tie me down; it was quite freeing in many ways, such a strange life in a funny old world!!

No, i consider my "everything" to be my soul... and I never want to lose it, if I do, that means the devil won... And I'd suffer eternal fire in hell...

But, I will feel a great sense of loss in the coming weeks, my sister (who is also my closest friend) is leaving us... I just hope to see her again in heaven.

it's happened to me a couple times....the worst, was coping with a 90% paycut, a considerable redulction in lifestyle & circumstance. It gets old, real quick. And, dear man, it sucks dead bunnies, to boot~

Never, although I have lost my way a few times, which can feel like you have lost everything. I always end up finding it again though. :-)

No, but came pretty close to it, and found that I could survive a whole lot more than I thought I could.
