For example I went to interview yesterday for Bacardi Inc. in Miami Fl to interview for a position of accounts payable coordinator and according to the manager there they tell me I am not capable of performing the position by not hiring me. I have been an accounts payable supervisor for a fortune 500 company but I cant perform a job under what I am used to doing. Can anyone tell me if there is some kind of bias in this selection or is it just me and I am right in that companies here in Miami FL don't care about hiring candidates with degrees and prefer cheaper labor for the accounts payable position by hiring non degree candidates.

Sometime you can be classified as over qualified. This applies to peoplee who want more money than the company can afford for this position or people who have to much knowledge for the job. AS a manager who does hiring peopl myself I have found that people who get hired for jobs that they are over qualified for end up leaving in a very short while due to dissatisfaction in the job. Yes you are correct. I would Rather hire someone for a few dollars cheaper and be able to mold them my way than pay somebody more money.

I think you recognize that companies, not only in the Miami area, but all over the country are looking at "cheap labor" only to find out in the long run that a few pennies saved now could mean big bucks in the future for incompetent, erroneous results.

Bottomline: accountants are cheap, they went for a cheaper candidate
Second: Please tell them to send you in writing why they rejected giving an offer to you, they probably won't. tell them to write it on letterhead and send to your home address delivered to your name. Tell them you need it for your records relating to taxes (taxes for job search) or unemployment, it really doesn't matter. They probably may send a generic letter stating they reviewed all qualified candidates and your skills did not match the job... Blah Blah Blah, If they send a letter saying they picked a candidate because he was better suited or better skilled, this is up to there determination, because work in US is called "at-will" employment essentially American workers except for Union workers have no labor contract in USA. Employers can give a subjective response when inquiried about you (i.e. He was overqualified, he expected pay not within our pay scale, He didn't seem to fit in to our environment) Its very easy for them to reject people and not be liable.

What they are liable for and you can bring a lawsuit against them:
Incorrect questions in interviews:
what is your age?
what religion are you?
what ethnic background are you?
what country did your parents come from before they moved here?
what is your political party?
what race is your spouse?
Are you gay/lesbian?
Do you want to go have a date with me?
Boy you are attractive and you have a nice physique/body, etc.

These are protected by law

Perhaps, as that is vague enough to avoid a lawsuit.

I lost a broadcasting (TV News) job to a woman with a terrible lisp. Go figure
