I have to write a paper of how concepts of death and dying have been learned through the media. This paper has to be about a song. I need to have the lyrics also. If anyone has lyrics to a good song or any ideas of a good song that I can get 4 pages of information from please let me know. Thanks

Lightning Crashes by LIVE
Time of your life by Green Day (?)
Paint a Vulgar Picture by The Smiths (there are many songs by The Smiths that are appropriate.)

Go to search engine and look at SONG LYRICS and look up some of the artists that have been metioned by myself as well as other respondants.

You will find that some artists write songs that portray death as glamourous, tragic, needless, glorious, honorable, accidental, a welcome friend/end to suffering, a constant battle, promoting suicide, something to fear, etc.

You might want to use multiple approaches that multiple artists take. Use three songs, that each take a different approach and market to different groups.

Lighnting Crashes by Live (not 3rd Eye woops)

It has a child being born as someone else dies on a hospital floor....and it's open to other interpretations too.
----

I also like Johny Cash's Hurt...he did it towards the end. It has an amazing video which really gives the song more meaning. It's really sad though.

----
Or Keith Urbans
These are the days--that one is kind of more about living. But I am a half full kind of person. (it pairs with Days Go By)
--
Live like you were dying by Tim McGraw--probably will be overdone if others have the assignment.
--
Dale Worely -If something should happen.

Sounds like a cool paper.

You could write a really amazing paper about "Strange Fruit" by Billie Holiday. The song is based on a poem that was written about a famous lynching. This would be an excellent paper, and you could have no trouble finding information on it. Tie in the effects of the photograph (that inspired the author of the poem) and how the song has been used as an avenue for discussing lynchings, racial violence, and inequality

I don't know if this helps, but if you speak or understand spanish then the song by Don Omar ( Angelito) is a real good song about dying.

Your best bet would be to look into rap music and how it portrais death and dying. Pretty much any rap song would work (sorry I can help with a title).

What about using "Suicide is Painless"? It was the theme song for M*A*S*H and it does have actual words. If you google

"Suicide is Painless lyrics" it should come up.
