I gave birth 5 months ago to my beautiful son. I always measured anywhere between 2 and 5 weeks ahead of my gestational age. If you were overweight before you got pregnant odds are better you will measure bigger. If he is so concerned you are carrying twins how many heart beats have been heard? How many showed up on ultrasound? When I gave birth at 35 weeks gestation he was just under 7 pounds and I measured 40 weeks. No big deal it happens often

Yes, I would say that evidently it can happen. I would imagine that your doctor would be the best person to advise you on this subject. Didn't she explain any of this to you? I would give her a call and ask her to answer your questions.
Usually the doctor notices early on in your pregnancy that your uterus is larger than it should be for as far along as you are. If you had an ultrasound for any reason it would have shown the other baby also.
There have even been cases when the one twin was positioned in such a way that it was missed repeatedly and it is not discovered until the woman is actually giving birth.
Childbirth and all that it entails is still something of a mystery. Stranger things have happened!
Good luck.
Blessings

Well I had an ultrasound at 20 weeks and again at 26 weeks and there was no way that one of my twins could've been hiding behind the other. If you've had an ultrasound it's highly unlikely that a twin was missed. If your doctor is truly concerned about that he would send you for another ultrasound. He would've been hearing two heartbeats for months now.

Did your OB do an ultrasound? They usually do one at ~20 weeks. You would NOT miss a baby at that time! If you haven't had an ultrasound, you should since twins tend to make women high-risk by default.
How is your weight gain? Have you been tested for gestational diabetes? If everything else is normal, you just might have a big baby in there. I consistently measured 4+ weeks ahead and had a 9 pound 11 ounce baby.

it is possible - it's called hidden twin syndrome.... my midwife was freaked when i was pregnant cos i was HUGE!! I gained 6 stone, my starting weight was 10 stone, but unfortunately women in my family just carry big.
could be a number of reasons that you are large, but a scan should rule out a second baby... get back to your midwife and request a test for gestationasl diabetes and another ultrasound.
in response to those who also had huge babies - that isn't always the case, so don't panic! my son was 6lb 8 1/2 oz.

yes, it can happen, altough is not that common...if he's concerned he sure is sending you for another ultrasound, if there's no other baby he will run some tests to see why are you measuring so large....maybe there's nothing wrong and you are just having a huge baby.I hope everything goes well and there's nothing wrong. Good luck

It happened to me. At my first scan there was only one baby - at my second scan at 18 weeks there was two. You should be getting another scan by now. Good Luck.
When I had my first baby I only had one scan at 12 weeks - so I would have been none the wiser, except I was huge second time.

It can happen, one baby can hide behind the other and mimic the heartbeat making it sound and look like only one. Are you scheduled for another ultrasound?

yeah, if you only had one ultrasound, or but strange happenings a couple, where the babies were directly on top of eachother, only the closest one would show up.
Its incredibly unlikely though.... I cant believe the doctor is suggesting it this late in the game.
It'll be interesting!
