Use any oil you want, at any price you want to spend as long as the oil meets the recomended specs in the owners manual.
General rule for motorcycles and ATV's is to stay away from oil labeled "energy conserving" on the back of the bottle.
Its really that simple.
But can get seriously complicated when you ask a general oil question on the internet.

10W/40 4 stroke motor oil
If you change your oil on a regular basis, synthetic oil is a waste of money. Also synthetic and regular oil are not compatable with each other. If you're taking a trip, check the oil and it's low, you may not be able to get synthetic. Something to think about.

I always use synthetic or semi-synthetic. Synthetic oil is lower maintenance - you don't typically have to change it as much. I recommend Royal Purple Max Cycle.

I prefer synthetic in my Valkyrie (150,000miles). It sticks to internal parts so they are coated at start-up. Wet clutches won't shear and break it down as fast as regular oil.
Most important is to use a good grade, regular or synthetic, and change it and the filter at, or before , the recommended interval.

I've used Mobil1 since the 70s with no problem. The engines never wear out. Don't use 20/50. It won't protect any better and doesn't flow through the tight spaces as well.

Check your bikes owners manual, your bike may not be compatible for synth, oil. Also I agree with the other answer, if you take a trip synth may not be ready avb. to you, I suggest CASTROL 10W40 or 20W50, be safe and enjoy the freedom
