Scientists say it's a evolutionist tendency the same as it's seen in animals.

its primal - in simple organisms, fear of extinction, threat to life or to the species drives reproduction - true for bacteria, fungi - mosses & sorts, marine algae and some rodent populations. Scientists are finding this works for most species...when humans sense fear, their million yr old evolved traits tell them to:

1. ensure survival of the species
2. protect young
3. protect myself

Its the ability to learn how to do those 3 that drives "survival of the fittest" To wrap things up - taller creatures, generally meaning they are bigger than you were seen as a threat- who do you turn to for safety & security? A taller guy. Security and safety in humans is now encompassing more than just height, its financial stability, intelligence and emotional state. To each his or her own - so tall = safe/comfort = survival of species. Hope that helped!

as it should be, someone to look up to...Me being nasty again, no, seriously most women look at a guy and they seem to prefer taller men as my GF said I am the tallest guy she ever met and went out with. I am 6' 3" and she is 5' 3" and she is actually amazed with my height for some reason and I asked her lots and her answer was she feels I am her protector as well as her lover too. I still can't understand it. I have been picked over my friends to talk to at bars by women as my friends were shorter than me and same thing I was approached more than they were too. I have no idea, but I wish I did. same with guys who look at tall slinky women over shorter ones... Stature maybe?

To me Height is just a bonus. I've dated guys shorted or the same size (all sweethearts). I would just prefer them taller, so they can carry me when I'm drunk/past out!!

i suppose it's so that they don't have to bend down to kiss them, or so their t!ts don't get so in the way when they want to hug.

i'm not automatically turned on by a girl that's significantly taller than me, if i'm around them, i sort of feel... smaller! it's the only thing i can think of that i feel a tad bit shallow about :-}

i don't know but it might be that we think that they are more likely to protect us if we were in danger. (e.g. when we weren't so intelligent and person-like). it's just like the other question- why do men prefer the woman with more dilated pupils?

Because taller guys are thought of as more masculine.
