I visited my sisters last week and they had the DVD which had subtitles available, so we sat through the whole movie to see what would be written when he shouted out his mother's name. We were so disappointed when we found that they apparently didn't know either because nothing was written. Does it say in the original book and if so, what does it say there? Or is it supposed to remain a mystery?

He yells out Moonchild. I don't know why.

The Empress is given a new name by each human child who visits Fantastica (original spelling), so in fact she did have a name before Moon Child but it was given to her so long ago that it was forgotten by the people and creatures of Fantastica.

The book is fantastic. I recommend it. As for the name, I'm pretty positive that the name is Moon Child. In original German, her name is Mondenkind.
