The name witch or wizard is the modern term for the "wise ones', people that lived in small villages, usually well versed in the ways of healing, use of herbs, comforting the afflicted etc. It wasn't until the "enlightened" and very paranoid christians came along, that these people were considered to be evil.
Witches are very real today. People follow Wicca as a nature religion for example, trying to follow rituals and practices that as far as they know may have been in practice many centuries ago.
Most real witches will be the first to tell you that they don't even believe in the devil. On the other hand, most "devil"worshipper are just frustrated catholics rebelling against their upbringing.

I prefer the term mage, for that is what you are after you graduate apprenticeship... okay, I, for one hate all this secrecy, i've been on the prime material plane in one place for too long, and I want to go and explore it! but, then i'd have to dress normally and not let my powers act on my emotions, damn, too bad that my guild won't accept leaving untill I get to the Warlock rank... I whish I would be the Arch Mage of the guild and then everyone would do as I tell them... anyway we are real, you just have to find it, heck if you'll find me at least, i'll try my last spell on you, i'll try to make you younger, btw about spells... there is no "mana" but lifting a wooden crate by use of magic would drain just as much strength as if you would use your arms and back, thus we use magic only when necesairy, we try to controll it so the gift doesn't turn to a curse, for our powers act mostly on our emotions, and might not abide the words which you say to use the power....

Light Love and Peace.... btw, if you want to heal a part of your body, i've talked to some humans and told them to hold theyr non-writing hand over the scratch/wound and think healing, and say Waise Hail... (which means be healed)

ha ha ha, that's kinda funny because in many of my answers i announce myself as a solitary practitioner of Wicca and wizardry. what makes me a witch is that i am connected to nature. i can see natural currents and energies, and in limited ways commune and control them. as a wizard, i am deeply into the study of high arcane arts, understanding the astral world, and bending and shaping the astral to my will in a process using mind and science and imagination to make the universe perform functions that would help me expand my life. i started with qabalah. which is an ancient form of Hebrew wizardry. the same that Abraham, Solomon, and moses practiced, although moses got a great boost to his wizard power learning many wizard things from Egyptians too.i have studied alchemy, freemasonry, tarot, astrology, enochian (study of angels and how to communicate and command them), scrying, and many other studies that would be hard to describe to a muggle (lol harry potter speak for a mundane person not interested in studying magick) i work with candles, gems, seasons, and many natural occurrences that are there for that purpose. we do exist. anyone into kabbalah will tell you that. well if you or anyone has any questions i do have contact info in my question answer page here. look me up and ask.

Go to Africa, witch doctors are still everywhere... it's said that football matches are resolved more by the work of fetish makers than by the actual playing... People believe in it, the people are there, and themagic "works"... at least some of it... of course, the trouble is when a black magic scare comes up and mobs decide to lynch somebody who's thought to be an evil magician...

Ever wonder how the people could have seen all the miracles in the Word and still question things?
It's because they had seen magic many times before. The
Egyptian magicians in Exodus did the first 3 plagues that Moses did too!

The be conscious shaman is initially a Russian be conscious, notwithstanding it has grow for use to signify any type of non secular healer that makes use of very certain therapeutic approaches, through earth elders, animal/plant/earth spirits, and so on., alongside with (in a number of of situations) psycho-energetic substances (mushrooms, and so on.) and animal sacrifice (which in a number of of situations, if no longer continually, required the shaman to eat a number of its blood, mixed with particular herbs). there are countless present day shamans who use a mixture of the a lot less violent practices and Wicca, Hindu, and Gnostic therapeutic practices. by using West's repulsion to the bloodier practices of classic "shamanism", many classic elders are unwilling to percentage the authentic practices, and in the journey that they do percentage any, its in a number of of situations the "watered-down" version, notwithstanding this may properly be replacing.
