The answer is yes. When you add a new person to your messenger list, you should be able to choose which network to look on for the new user.
Example: In Yahoo! IM - type in the users id or email address and then under network (by default its Yahoo! Messenger) choose Windows Live (MSN)

Yes, you can on the new yahoo messenger. You can enter their msn( windows messnger) id, like ????@hotmail.com, and it allows you to chat with them. All you have to do is add their email at the top of the messenger.
