You're presuming my time is "valuable" in the first place ;)

I think it's because we all have an "Inner Ann Landers." For years we've read advice columns and moaned "I could do a better job than that!" This is our chance.

I like the opportunity to reflect on experience or to actually define how I think or feel about a subject that I may have only had abstract ideas about until I had to put it into writing. Sometimes it's nice to actually have the answer. On a few occasions I think I may have actually helped a person or two that had been struggling with a serious issue. Sometimes I get to see what a jerk I can be with some of my opinions (not often but once in awhile :-D). Or I can vent where I know it will be widely read.
I can get an idea of how much I think like others or not, in many cases I am glad I don't.
I can often find a question that I would ask but has been asked before so I have the info at hand.I see that there are a lot of extremely well informed people out there , they are interesting.
I become aware of things that never occurred to me , prior to reading here . At times I am disappointed at the content of questions and wonder about the mentality of the asker and/or responder. Then I hope the ridiculous doesn't get in the way of the other questions and make the site not worth the time. I can see the advantage and enjoyment of knowledge and opportunity to reach a large public as a good thing , but not when it's polluted with crap with the sole intent to distract and irritate people. Besides , It's something to do for fun.I do learn things , not necessarily in depth but information. I don't feel so smart when I read through some of the questions , but hey ,I have my own strengths and I never get bored with a computer around....I am amazed at how some of the folks aquire so many points in short time, it's got to take alot of time. The highest scoring fellow has over 50% best answers . geeeez that alot of answers.

I may get around to asking something one of these days.

1) I like it only sometimes, when people are not frustrating me. I usually only answer questions in the pregnancy and parenting section, because of the extensive research that I have done in those areas.

2) I have learned that people can be fickle when their judgments are questioned. By this I mean that alot of people only ask questions so that they can hear answers that validated their belief. I have also learned that there are of kids/people who use Yahoo Answers just to get a rise out of people.

3) I usually only get on Yahoo Answers when my children are at school and my 2 yr old is sleeping. Other times that I am on is when everyone has gone to bed - I am pregnant and suffering from insomnia. So the time I spend on here is my "down-time" and not very valuable.

4) I think the Yahoo Answers site is a very valuable tool for people with genuine questions, but at the same time I would love to be a moderator on here to keep the kooks out. LOL!!

On a personal note: I hold the personal belief that if a person does not want an honest or public answer to his/her situation or question they shouldn't ask the question in public forums such as Yahoo Answers, because people like me are going to be there and give an answer they may not like.

It can be VERY valuable with questions about home repair, law, automotive, etc.
At the same time, you can get some deeper, thoughtful questions about deeper themes like religion and philosophy.

Voting on topics is also an interesting way to learn new things.

I just wish they did a better job keeping the content clean here. There are a few people with nothing better to do than to insult and offend.

It gets me pondering things I normally wouldn't think about. Broadens my horizons.
I enjoy seeing other peoples points of view. I realize there are so many people that are more, or less educated than I am. That there are differing opinions and values.
It allows me to think of how I would react in a situation or to dredge up experiences I have had in a similar circumstance.
I like the different personalities of the users on the board, it's unreal knowing that their are so many different types of people in the world that I will never come in contact with in real life but here on Yahoo answers, I can have a few brief online question and answer interactions with them.
I like that I can possibly give them a different perspective on their questions, maybe offer them a look into my life experiences.

I like yahoo answers very much. I always log in to view questions and answer some if I can. I think it's a way to express what we know and help other people with our knowledge. I even surprised to know that some people really don't know the questions that I think are general.

Yeaaahhh!! It's cool.

I don't waste time here.
I selectively spend my leisure time.
Watching TV is much more of a waist.
I learn some.
Basically I like Y!A because I can scream out all my frenzy and no one complains.

I like Yahoo!Answers so much because it's nice to see how everyone else thinks and read answers to questions you would never even think about asking. Things like that.

What makes me spend my valuable time to ask/answer? maybe it's the same reason the caveman had when he made his drawings eons ago..... :)

It allows me to apply what I know and my honest opinon, knowledge and expertise to perhaps help someone out whether its been computer, relationship, mechanical, etc type related questions. It also allows me to search for questions that I may have had and see what responses people have given. This is a pretty neat site and props to Yahoo for it. Although the point system doesn't really mean much its definitely something to do to do your good deed for the day or just killing time.

Good question. I try to ignore the stupidity, although sometimes its a good release! There are some interesting topics. I just use it to pass some time since I'm addicted to the Internet anyway.
